Tharaka Nithi MPs say criteria used to visit the county’s national projects by PDU won’t have impact.
The three MPs from Tharaka Nithi County earlier today showed their dissatisfaction over the criteria that was used to visit and inspect national government initiated project by the presidential delivery unit team.
Speaking at the new county commissioner’s office grounds at Kathwana where the team had converged for the inspection, Maara MP Kareke Mbiuki fiercely faulted the schedule that was unleashed by the PS for water, irrigation and sanitation Mr. Joseph Irungu to visit Tharaka, Chuka Igambangombe and Maara sub counties.
Kareke told Mr. Irungu that in Maara, the most critical project the delegation could have visited is Keeria-Magutuni road and that links the county headquarters at Kathwana and Chogoria- Weeru-Marima road. According to the legislator, the Magutuni-Keeria-Kathwana road has stalled since it was launched due to the reasons he attributed to Kenya rural roads authority (KERA).
“Why would you want to take us visit projects that are 70% complete whereas the Keeria-Magutuni-Kathwana road is 1% complete since it was launched back in 2008 but till now it has stalled,?’’ Kareke paused.
The Maara legislator therefore said it was worth visiting the project that is 1% rather than inspecting almost completed projects that would end up blind folding them and thus hindering them from real issues.
His Tharaka counterpart Gitonga Murugara alias GG said Tharaka is the only constituency in Kenya which has only 9% of electricity connectivity yet the Kibicho led delegation would not visit his area of jurisdiction for such a sensitive and critical issue.
Chuka Igambangombe legislator Hon.Patrick Munene proposed that instead of the whole team visiting the three sub counties, the group would instead be divided into three groups to exhaustively tour and inspect the government projects in the three sub counties.
However Mr. Irungu in his response towards the sentiments, he said since Tharaka Nithi has been the first county to visit it has been an eye opener for them and if need be the leaders from these places can call them back to inspect projects they feel should be inspected.
The presidential delivery unit led by Ps for interior security Mr.Karanja Kibicho later inspected Chiakariga tarmac, the county headquarters building, Chuka-Kaareni road, Muraga technical and vocational training institute in Maara and Kirubia stadium in Chuka.
