A 33-year-old man from Muurani village, Matakili location in Tharaka south sub-County has today lost his life after drowning in Rr. Thanantu while he was fishing in the company of 3 others.
The man identified as Stephen Murimi was fishing in the company of 3 other colleagues identified as Muthengi M’Kanyaru, Kinyua M’Rugia, and Mwenda M’Rugia when the disaster stroke.
According to the three colleagues, they had gone fishing in the river as it has been the norm when the late dived in the waters to cast the net but to their surprise, he failed to resurface. They said that some banks where they does fishing have caves where they dives to fish and possibly the victim was unable to get out safely.”The late dived underwaters just as we are used but probably failed to trace his way out which might have led to his drowning,” a colleague said.
They says after staying longer than they expected,they began a search in the waters but their efforts to trace him failed. This prompted the 3 to raise an alarm to the villagers who upon arriving assisted in the search and retrieved the lifeless body.
It is an incidence that has left family members saddened figuring out what will become of the departed young family. The late has left behind 4 children and a wife who is expectant.
The body has since been picked by police from Nguo Imwe Station and taken to Chuka Hospital mortuary.
