A form 3 girl from Katheremani village in Kamwathu location ,Gatunga ward,Tharaka North sub county in Tharaka Nithi county is hospitalized in Marimanti level 4 hospital after developing complications when she delivered a newborn and dumped the young angel in a pit latrine.
According to her brother, the girl returned home from their shamba where she had been farming the whole day with her mother complaining of stomach ache, and after a short while, she raised an alarm while seriously bleeding before fainting on their way to the hospital.
From there no one knew what had happened despite several questions arising from traces of blood from their home latrine to the house where she has been living.
It was until morning hours in the following day when a family member heard cries coming out of the latrine and after checking out using a spotlight, a newborn was discovered while still alive.
Efforts to save the life of the little angel immediately took off where the latrine was demolished and the male infant taken out alive.
The child was rushed to Marimanti level 4 hospital while in stable condition and he was immediately hospitalized.
When she spoke to NewsFlash254, the 19 year old form 3 student said she did not dump her newborn but the infant dropped off into the pit latrine when she went for a short call and in the whole confusion, she crawled out without knowing anything had happened.
She further explains that from here she started bleeding profusely before losing consciousness and thus no way she could have known if at all she had delivered.
“I had gone for a short call after developing a serious stomach ache and in the process, I started bleeding before losing conscious shortly. Being my first time to deliver, no way I would have known if such thing had happened since I regained conscious the next morning,” she defended herself.
Although the authority at the facility declined to address media over the issue, the nurse incharge of the maternity wing affirmed the newborn is progressing well and is out of danger. The family having recorded statement at Marimanti police station over the issue, the girl now pleads with authority not to punish her as she says she didn’t intentionally dump the baby.
