A family in Mwanyani village Nkondi ward in Tharaka south Sub County is overjoyed after re-uniting with one of their family members who has gone missing for over 7 years and rumors had it that she was no longer living.
According to Celina Mukwanyaga, her now 37 years old daughter Doreen Karegi developed mental illness back in the years back after getting her first born son from where she had gotten married before returning home after becoming violent.
While at home still in her worsening mental condition, Karegi conceived and gave birth to another son who is now 8 years old but following her mental situation, she fled home and left the boy while he was only 6 months old and started loitering in Marimanti town and later went missing before reports went viral that she had been knocked dead by a vehicle in Mwingi town.
Unknown to family members, after leaving Marimanti Karegi moved to Embu town where she has been living until a lady identified as Nkirote Macarius who was working in Marimanti by the time Karegi was staying there identified her recently, highlighted and shared through social media the hard life Karegi has been going through and the news reached her family.
“I do not know what I am supposed to do. When I am around I give her food and she is fond of me since she realized we both come from Tharaka. Where does one get help for such a case? I am tired of finding her bleeding and totally messed up any time I see her, my heart is bleeding for this one!,’’ read a part of the face book post from Nkirote Makarius.
It was after the viral post that Marimanti ward MCA Susan Ngugi made arrangements with Karegi’s eldest brother Mr. Julius alias kareru and drove to Embu where they picked Karegi and had her health status checked by doctors before bringing her back home, thanks to Nkirote who was supportive throughout.
When News Flash 254 made a spot check to Karegi’s brother home in Kangutu, Nkondi ward, the family had gathered to celebrate the good news since according to the villagers, they had believed that the lady was no more.
Speaking to News Flash 254, her brother Julius said they were happy to have Karegi back home but the medical bill being needed for her regular checkup is a head ache to them to raise.
“In the hospital were being required to part with Sh 5000 and a daily payment of Sh 2000 for her treatment until she is in the recommended state. Roughly we are required to raise Sh 200,000 for the whole treatment plan which we cannot manage as a family,’’ Julius said.
He therefore asked any person of good will who might be willing to chip in and help the family foot the bill to restore the happiness on their loved one face. `we are appealing as a family to every one of goodwill who may offer any kind of help to enable us raise the hospital charges to feel free to help us and we will appreciate,’’ he appealed.
The family thanked Nkirote Makarius and Marimanti ward MCA Susan Mwindu for their great support towards re-uniting the family with their loved years later after their hope had died.
