Rev. Eliphas Muthengi of EAPC Kairindi and Chiakariga parish in Tharaka,TharakaNithi county will be retiring from service after 43 years, in a farewell ceremony scheduled on 12 Sunday.
Muthengi says he got saved back in 1978 and to date he has maintained the salvation despite many challenges. “Since I got saved I have been into alot but i thank God for he has been with me through out my service,” Muthengi says.
The revered has been pivotal in enlighting Tharaka child on the importance of attaining education which was difficult since the community was deeply rooted into retrogressive culture. He says it was an uphill task to convince locals who had not known the importance of education to embrace schools.
In the 1980s, Muthengi started an Anti-FGM campaign in Tharaka against its culture. This brought more troubles on his way as he was regarded as an enemy of Atharaka culture. Female genital mutilation however remains a challenge to the community to date.
