Locals of Mukothima B in Tharaka have raised alarm over electricity poles and wires that have collapsed in the locality posing danger to them.
When NewsFlash 254 made a spotcheck in the locality, we found Mr Simeon M’King’ang’a a blind man who said a pole has been lying around on his shamba for some time now.He said that efforts to prepare his shamba for the oncoming season has been greatly hampered by the wires since tractor operators have since declined working on the farm in presence of the wired posts.
“As the onset of the rain approaches, my shamba remains deplorable as every tractor operator I approaches to work on it turns me away saying they cannot operate while these posts are still lying around,” said Mr Simeon.
Being visually impaired, Simeon told NewsFlash 254 that he has been hurt severally by a post fallen next to his house as he walks around his homestead. The posts also risks safety of children who hangs around with the wires in the remaining poles, without knowledge on when they can next collapse.
Residents in the vicinity said the wired posts were installed about 3 years ago but instead of being connected to the national glid, they were left to rot to an extent of collapsing down as the locality remains dark.
They therefore asked the area Tharaka Mp Hon. Gitonga Murugara and Kenya power and lighting company to make haste and correct the mess before a disaster strikes.
