Boda boda operator groups from Tharaka Nithi will benefit through an initiative by the Njuki led government to help them engage in alternative income generating ventures among them being dairy farming during this time the sector has been rattled by the covid pandemic.
It is an initiative that is being undertaken by the county government in partnership with Kenya climate-smart agriculture project KCSAP, an organization that has been pivotal in empowering farmers through modern and productive ways of farming.
Speaking at Mitheru grain cereals stores in Maara Sub County when he launched the program, Governor Njuki urged the operators in the sector to embrace initiatives aimed at improving their welfare promising that his administration is committed to supporting every business setup.
“I am delighted that you have taken the initiative positively and embraced it and that is why you requested an input from the government. I assure you of my committal towards supporting small and micro enterprises in the county to ensure that they grow and benefit residents,’’ Njuki said.
He further urged them to take the chance given to rise to higher levels since the government is there for them. Also as a way of sustaining the project, Njuki said the groups can come up with their own animal feeds now that the government is also empowering such moves
During the launch of the program, members who are beneficiaries of the initiative received an assortment of animal feeds free of charge to kick start the program without hitch.
The governor assured bodaboda operators that their tax exemption still remains a way of empowering them but urged them to wisely utilize the chance to grow.
“If you consult from other bodaboda operator groups from other counties, you will learn that they remit taxes to their county governments but here I chose to exempt you from the same. Therefore I urge you to utilize the few coins you earn in an economical way rather than getting drunk which earn you nothing,’’ he said.
Finally governor Njuki urged residents to be vigilant when approached by politicians especially during this campaign eave and instead use development score cards in rating politicians who may be aiming at using them for their political gain
