Activities to complete KMTC marimanti campus are in full gear ahead of its anticipated September opening to have its first bunch of medical students.
Speaking at the Campus grounds when he was assessing the progress, Tharaka MP Gitonga Murugara who is pushing the project through CDF kitty said he was impressed by the works going on to ensure the campus admits first students in September.
“So far we have in place two blocks of classes, an administration block, a modern abrussion block and the fencing of the school. This is great achievement and everything is in place to ensure the first enrollment is done in September as planned,’’ MP Gitonga said.
Murugara urged the community to support the college by enrolling their children at the campus instead of taking them to far colleges in bid to help their own college grow.
He said the bursaries he has been awarding to KMTC students from Tharaka studying in other campuses will now be issued to students from Tharaka enrolling at the new campus as a way of promoting and encouraging students from Tharaka to study there.
Immediate former Meru national polytechnic principal Geoffrey Mucee Rukunja lauded the growth of education sector in Tharaka saying the community will now catch up with other communities in terms of education to its people.
He noted that the Marimanti KMTC is strategically located to ensure that students who will study there will have adequate and professional first-hand experience in their field of work from Marimanti level 4 hospital.
“Students who will be studying at Marimanti KMTC campus will be advantaged to use Marimanti level 4 facility as a laboratory where they will be at a better position to put their class learnt skills into real life practice making them much more competent compared to others,’’ Mr. Rukunja noted.
He further said KMTC being part of TVET institutions, it is a plus to Tharaka community and Tharaka Nithi County in general since it is an additional of institution higher learning to complement the existing ones like Tharaka University and Tharaka technical and vocational college.
Tharaka KMTC Marimanti campus that has so far spent about 10 million will operate under Chuka KMTC for time being until it stabilizes to run on its own.
