TharakaNithi deputy county governor Eng. Francis Nyamu Kagwima will now take charge of the county in position of acting governor
This is justified by order barring the county governor Hon. Muthomi Njuki from accessing his office until the case which he has been charged with a graft of Sh 34.9million in a tender awarded in unlawful manner is concluded.
The inauguration event that took place at Kathwana governor’s office was graced by Marimanti ward MCA Hon. Susan Ngugi, Chirles Nyaga-Mitheru ward, Margaret Gitari-chogoria ward, and Denis Mutwiri-Mugwe ward. Muthomi 810 a Chuka based business man and the former Nithi Mp Petkay Miriti also accompanied the governor.
MCAs present lauded EACC’s move to arrest and charg the governor for looting county coffers and urged the newly installed governor to account for every coin since his case won’t be different.”We want to warn you here publicly that we will also put you on toes on matters of public money and we will demand explanation on the expenditure to do with County cash without any fear, “Marimanti ward MCAs Hon.Susan Ngugi said.
In his address,Kagwima said he will be taking over the county operation and he will be the centre of Command forth with.The now acting governor said anyone speaking on behalf of the county will do so in his permission citing no vacuum in the administration and so urged the MCAs to get on with their oversight roles.
“Anybody communicating on behalf of the county government will do so with my permission.There is no vacuum and functions of the county will continue normally and services to people will be delivered diligently. I therefore appeal to the county assembly to contnue playing their oversight role as ussual and we shall work together,” Kagwima said.
He further revealed that he will be having an executive committee meeting on Monday 14th to chat the way forwad as a county.This is alongside next week’s meeting with the county MCAs to to discuss how the county will run in terms of service delivery.
The take over comes despite report by the county communication Director that the rulling on Njuki’s case has no impact in terms of dispensing his duties as the governor and thus the governor will still run the county.”Muthoni Njuki is still the county governor and shall contnue dispensing his duties as the elected governor.The rulling only barred him from accessing his Kathwana office but he can work from anywhere else in the county,” Mr. Kobia said.
The new acting governor thus called upon Every stake holder in the county to join them as they develop the county since Tharaka Nithi is bigger than any individual.
