Director of national museums of Kenya Dr. Mzalendo Kibunjia has revealed that plans are underway to
construct the Ura gate grounds. Ura gate has been hosting Tharaka annual cultural festivals since
devolution took effect.
Speaking to Newsflash 254, Dr. Mzalendo said he will be chipping in through the ministry of tourism since
culture is devolved but unfortunately, the county government has not shown any interest on the same.
“Culture being a devolved function has been limiting us to act towards the ground but upon discovering
that the devolved unit is no longer interested with developing the grounds, I will be aiding the
construction through ministry of tourism,” Dr. Mzalendo told Flash News.
Dr. Mzalendo noted that despite Ura gate having been operational for a while now, nothing much in
terms of construction has been undertaken on the ground.
He said his proposal seeking Sh 10 Million for the project through the said ministry of tourism is likely to
be complete by the end of September and once the cash is out the work will commence.
The director is one of the aspirants who have publicly declared their interest in gubernatorial seat in the
next polls with the hope of clinching the top seat.
