As covid-19 bites,Kenyans should brace for tougher moments ahead in shouldering huge and expensive hospital bills in case one will be admitted in an hospital with corona infection.
Before senate on Wednesday,Health CS Mutahi Kagwe said the cost of covid-19 testing and treatment is not currently stipulated in the monthly contributions payable to the kitty and thus no way the NHIF would cater for the bills.
“The cost burden of financing covid-19 treatment to NHIF beneficiaries would not be possible as it was not included in the current NHIF monthly package,” Kagwe said.
Mutahi further used the excuse that both pandemics and epidemics are always not included in health insurance due to their uncertainty nature in the way they occurs.
Kenyans have been on the push to register for NHIF to lower their cost of treatment in case an illness strikes but now with covid-19 seems they will be on their own with the only solution remaining staying safe from the ravaging virus.
