As 2022 succession politics shape up in the County and nationally, Tharaka Nithi county governor Muthomi Njuki urged elected leaders to gang together with interest of electorates at the center for better service delivery.
Speaking during a church fundraiser at St. Michael Kaguchwani Catholic church in Gatunga ward, Njuki said differences amongst leaders in the county has been the greatest challenges when it comes to delivering development to locals.
“Leaders have to some extent failed to deliver or perform to the expectation of their voters due to differences emanating from their personal interests. As a leader, one should concentrate on service delivery to voters and not unnecessary wrangles that end up derailing development,’’ Njuki said.
Referencing the tarmacking of Maua-Gatithini road that stalled upon getting Tharaka Nithi soil, the county boss said it requires the unity of Tharaka Nithi leaders to lobby for the extension of the tarmac to other parts of Tharaka Nithi County since it is a national government project that should serve deserving locals.
Njuki who was in company of CEC Abraham Maruta, MCAs Susan Mwindu of Marimanti ward, Mutegi Rugia of Nkondi ward, Gitonga Kithuuka of Nkondi ward, Gataya Mwenda of Mukothima ward and nominated MCA Muthiini Karangi said for the first time Gatunga hospital has a modern maternity wings thanks to the county government of Tharaka Nithi.
“For the first time pregnant women can now get maternity services at Gatunga Hospital after completion of a modern maternity wing at the facility that is only awaiting installation of a backup generator to allow 24 hrs. operation. Locals are now relieved the burden of seeking the vital services from far facilities,’’ he said
Mukothima ward MCA Mwenda Gataya asked the governor to be considerate to Tharaka when it comes to issuance of county bursaries considering the economic hardships of the region so that parents won’t have hard time come January when schools are expected to re-open.
“considering that most of the parents from Tharaka depend on farming as the main economic activity, most of them may face hard times to raise fees when learning resumes since the condition at the farms is not that promising, I therefore request you to make sure when schools are re-opening parents are able to get bursaries for their children so that learning is not hampered,’’ Gataya asked Njuki.
On his part, Nkondi ward MCA Gitonga Kithuka lauded Njuki’s administration for effective projects that previous regime was not able to achieve and urged residents to remain calm since all projects cannot be accomplished at the same time.
Further, Gitonga said there is need for constituents to support the current administration and elected leaders so that they benefit from the government while nominated MCA Muthiini Karangi asked the locals to be careful as they approach the December festive season since come next year responsibilities won’t wait.
Finally the governor emphasized on the need for every leader to concentrate on their mandate bestowed on them rather than mere politicking and thus distracting other leaders from performing duties they were elected to do.
