Tharaka Nithi senator Prof. Kithure Kindiki has assured the constituents that no part of Tharaka will be lost to Meru county.
Kindiki’s sentiments come amid claims that through recent questionnaires that headteachers have been filling about their schools, a number of institutions have been absorbed into Meru County contrary to previous years where they have been reporting in Tharaka Constituency.
According to a report compiled by several local FM stations, the following schools have been moved to Igembe South sub-county. Riamwanki primary, Riamikui ECDE, and primary.
Imenti south has taken in Muthitwa ECDE and primary and Mutonga primary. Central Imenti has absorbed Kibuka ECDE, kibuka primary, and kibuka polytechnic.
In north Imenti, Iria ria Mathunka primary has been taken in, while Tigania central has taken, in Karambani primary, Kioru primary, and ECDE, Kirigicha primary and ECDE.
Meru central has absorbed the most schools according to the report. They include Tonya primary and secondary,Muguna Ana education centre, Rungu primary, Rungu Junior academy, Mugui primary, Mugui secondary, Kiagu primary, SDA Kibunga academy, CCM Kiuguni primary, Kithioroka primary, Kathuura primary and Gituri primary.
Kindiki said as leaders from Tharaka Nithi they will not watch anything from the county being lost to another county or the development from the county get deterred.
He however challenged the County Governor Muthomi Njuki to come out and divulge the details of a meeting they held with his Meru counterpart kiraitu Murungi and president Uhuru Kenyatta over the same. He further requested in case such a meeting is called in the future, let it incorporate all the leaders since it is a sensitive issue.
“I am requesting that if in future a need to have such a meeting arises, let have all leaders ranging from MCAs, Women reps, MPs, senators and governor from both counties in presence of Njuri Ncheke elders. This is not a thing for two people to sit indoors to discuss and hand over the report,” Kindiki said.
A few weeks ago Central Imenti Mp Kirima Ngucine said together with Meru county Governor they are following up the issue of the boundary between the two counties and they are involving the head of state who will soon unveil the boundary.
Tharaka Mp Gitonga Murugara applauded the move to involve the president but requested the exercise to be carried out fairly in presence of Njuri Ncheke elders who knows better about the issue of the boundary. He however rubbished the statement by Meru County Governor that there are some title deeds holders who don’t know where their parcel of lands is, terming it as baseless.
Senator Kindiki has therefore urged the constituents to remain calm while the issue is being solved. He further urged the local leaders to shun statements that may tend to put their people in tension since dialogue will have the issue solved.
