Gatithini residents in Mukothima ward in Tharaka North Sub County are set to be relieved of acute water shortage in the locality after a borehole being drilled by the county government of Tharaka Nithi in partnership with Mukothima mission church under father Eliud Mwenda is complete.
Speaking to News Flash 254, the locals narrated how they traverse over long distances in search of water in neighboring Ura and Thangatha rivers which at times dries up. `We are forced to walk over long distances to fetch water from River Ura and Thangatha which are far away from here.At times we are even left to dig wells in these rivers when the streams dries up,’ said Ziphora kawira one of the locals.
The locals thanked the Njuki led government and father in charge Mukothima parish for teaming up in bid to eradicate perennial water challenges that faces the semi-arid parts of Tharaka. They however urged the father and the governor Tharaka Nithi County to remember other parts surrounding Gatithini where the water from the facility may not reach.
Commenting on the project, father Eliud Mwenda thanked the county boss for according him the necessary support in his efforts to help Tharaka locals rise above the water challenges that has ravaged them for long. “I thank the Tharaka Nithi county government for supporting my donors with a driller to sink the borehole while we embark on installing the solar pumps.to ensure the residents went water,’’ Father Mwenda said.
Father Mwenda is being supported by Karen lette from Red Oark state in U.S to install the solar pumps once the drilling is done.
Father Mwenda urged the other leaders to come up together for the benefit of their electorates by hearing from them the projects they need prioritized so that they do not end up setting up projects that are not beneficial.
The bore is being sunk by the county government while the father through his donors will install the solar powered pumps to ensure the facility is operational and effective.
