A month after issuing Car washing Machines to organized bodaboda operators groups in all the wards in Tharaka constituency, Aspiring MP Muchomba Marigu is back this time empowering the sand harvesting groups in Tharaka in bid to ensure the groups benefit from the venture.
Speaking to Gaukuro sand harvesting group in Marimanti,Muchomba said there is great need for the groups which have ventured into sand harvesting to team up and set their own similar policies especially in pricing so that they will have bargaining power when it comes to operating their businesses.
Muchomba noted that unlike other groups working in quarries, sand harvesting groups have no standards price for the commodity which makes prospect buyers get a loop hole to exploit them through poor prices which is not helpful to the members.
In bid to streamline the venture which thrives well in Tharaka, Muchomba said there is need to ensure that the roads leading to the places where sand is harvested are maintained so that viable buyers are accessing the collection with ease.
“Our roads leading to the sand collection points are in deplorable state which makes buyers to have hard time in accessing the places discouraging them and at times even using it as an excuse to lower the prices. Therefore if those feeder roads are maintained in the required state, the venture would be thriving well and our people reaping big from it,’’ he said.
Commenting on the current leadership in the seat of the MP in Tharaka, Muchomba faulted the incumbent Member of parliament Gitonga Murugara alias GG for isolating youths in his regime saying for instance all the CDF tenders to do with construction, the sand harvesting groups should be reserved a slot to supply the sand since they are experts.
“The sand harvesting groups in Tharaka are the ones that should be given the first priority where any tender to do with construction emerges as they are able to supply the best quality and the required type as per the need of the experts doing the construction,’’ he added.
Various groups including that of Marimanti, Kamanyaki, Mitongoro, Kaarwa, Kamarandi, Chiakariga and Uturini in Tharaka South received tools from the politician to enable them carry out their daily activities in the sand harvesting venture.
Finally Muchomba urged the groups’ members who are mostly youths not to give in to demands of politicians who have always been turning up when elections nears with the aim of using them for personal benefits and later dumps them.
