Tharaka Nithi press association chair Mr. Alex Njeru has strongly condemned the reckless utterances by the Njuki led Tharaka Nithi government spokes person and the former MCA marimanti ward Mr.Mwabu Gk which he made during a fundraiser presided by Governor Njuki at Kathangacini Catholic church.
Njeru said that the sentiments by the officer was an attack and an insult to media profession which is uncalled for and that as media practitioners they will not take it lightly.
“As the association, all media houses and journalists are equal and it is not the responsibility of any government to guide its’ citizens on which stations to listen and which to shun.” he said.
He further said as an association they will be seeking clarification from the county’s communication director Mr.Simon Kobia on the media houses that the county feels are supposed to cover functions by the county and which media houses should keep off them.
His statement comes after correspondents of various media houses from Tharaka region walked out of a fundraiser at Kathangacini Catholic church which was presided over by governor Njuki after the government spokes person GK. Mwabu told members of public that only a few stations should be given audience.
Being the county government spokes person, the press members present felt that it was the position of the government and thus they walked out of the event and went their ways.
