Whether you like him or not you must agree that though he is not an elected leader he has distinguished himself from the crowd as a vicious, lethal pro-people champion. Mwangangi has commented over nearly every aspect that has happened in Tharaka and Tharaka-Nithi for consecutively 5 years after he joined the former regime of Ragwa at wee finishing hours in 2016 as a Chief Officer and later as Acting CEC.
You may agree with me that Sabastian has unprecedented guts. After his then boss was mistreated by the jubilee brigade in the 2017 elections, he decided to spit on the Jubilee face and rattle wasp’s nets when he secretly without the knowledge of Ragwa took a section of MCAs to the Capitol Hill office of Raila Odinga to crack some political bones.
While all who attended refused to address the media for fear of backlash at home, Mwangangi did with gusto, a story that was carried on the front page of Daily Nation titled “Tharaka Nithi Secretly Meets Raila Odinga” it online to date. Mwangangi declared Jubilee was cheating the People of Tharaka Nithi with “Stronghold” tags while implementing theoretical development projects. That is Mwangangi for you he fires on the hips no matter how big they are.
Mwangangi was raised in the footsteps of Gikingo hills in Kathangachini Location. He demonstrated his abilities even in School after emerging the Top student at Tharaka Boys with a Mean grade of B+ of 73 points missing an A- with only one point. During that year 2004 KCSE, he not only topped at his school but also emerged top boy in the district.
He later enrolled at Maseno University situated in the lakeside city of Kisumu County, the great land of professors to pursue a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration with information technology where he majored with Marketing.
Mwangangi is currently a PhD finalist at the University of Nairobi in the department of Diplomacy and International studies having been awarded Masters in the same department in 2015. At Maseno he was one of Meru-Maseno University student leaders he proudly shows Newsflash 254 well decorated certificates of leadership signed by the dean of students and the Patron, the then Kisumu DC Barua Jamlick.
He prides to be a pioneer member of two associations, the Diplomacy Scholars Association of Kenya as well as Africa Digital Diplomacy Research Group based in WITS University South Africa.
Mwangangi who has since been described as the unrelenting voice of civilians laments those leaders in the larger Tharaka-Nithi aren’t genuine with public service. He says they are preoccupied with massaging public problems with public relations stunts instead of combating them.
Sabastian has singled out the boundary row between Tharaka and Meru County as a perfect demonstration of aloofness by those in political administration. “Tharaka we are in the total darkness while recently political class in Meru County were chest-thumping that they took maps to government and boundary will soon be out yet on our Tharaka side joyriders in the political offices are hovering around the villages with donating pumpkins while residents aren’t certain on their parcels of land to farm their own pumpkins” he posed with utter bitterness
Mwangangi who is a victim of Mchabini-Kindani Skirmishes which left 9 schools torched and vandalized and people of Tharaka descent evacuated from their lands asserts that the issue of land must be taken seriously. “We were chased in our farms in 1996/1997 like wild rats to date we are squatters in our own country and no one seems to care.
Gakurungu tittles issue has been offered lip service by our leaders and today we aren’t been told ramifications of the new boundaries yet our leaders are treating the issue casually” he poked
Sabastian has been a voice of civilians in Tharaka and his tone carries heavyweight on public discourse, whether it condemning public officials mishandling locals like in the case of Kazi Mtaani saga, Census, arbitrary arrests of Boda-Boda riders, cattle rustling, lack of jobs for youths, parent weighed on fees he has diligently offered his voice on how to address such issues. He connects well with public because of his oratory skills. When Mwangangi picks a mic you have to drop what you are doing and lend him all your ears however he rarely disappoints on that respect.
The crystal ball has informed the Newsflash 254 that Mwangangi Sabastian is eying Tharaka Parliamentary seat 2022 and when we reached on him for a comment he said “ Let the catapult hunters continue calling themselves hunters, am busy cleaning my AK-47 riffles when I soon land echoes of my firing will drive them into dangerous trenches” he said. However, only God knows what the future holds for this combative and fearless son of Tharaka.
