After the passage of the alternative all-inclusive revenue sharing formula in the senate, Tharaka Nithi senator prof. Kithure Kindiki has said they will now be shifting focus in ensuring that those plundering public resources are getting jailed.
This is after coming into consensus into a favourable revenue sharing formula where no county will be losing a single coin unlike the disputed one man one shilling where a number of counties including Tharaka Nithi were set to lose millions of cash.
Kindiki says they shall demand accountability for the resources meant to benefit common mwananchi and they will be mounting pressure to bodies that should be administering justice to ensure criminals are punished.
“We shall now focus on accountability for these resources and pressure the organs involved in the administration of justice to ensure those stealing public money both in the county and national government are jailed,” Kindiki said
Further, the senator says corrupt officers and leaders should be made to forfeit the proceeds of crime to the state and also be permanently barred from holding any public office ever again.
In the new agreed formula, Tharaka Nithi will now get an additional Sh 289 million unlike it was the case with the initial formula when the county would lose Sh 499 million.
The senators opposed to one man one shilling alias Team Kenya have been claiming the formula was divisive to the nation and thus declined to support it causing the financial crisis in counties which even prompted the county bosses to close down devolved units.
Kindiki thanked all the senators who have stood with marginalized counties even when their counties have been gaining from the disputed initial revenue sharing formula.
