As 2022 succession politics in the county gathers pace with various contestants especially for the county’s top seat showing interest to unseat the incumbent Njuki, there are now signs that government spokesperson and former Marimanti ward MCA Mr. Paul Mwabu Gk who has been a close ally of Njuki may be on the run, out of his master’s political camp.
As evidenced by the recent functions in Tharaka by the governor, Njuki’s relationship with the government spokesperson seems to be going dim with Mwabu showing signs to shun from drumming support for his boss unlike it has been the norm in the recent past functions.
For instance during the last Sunday church fundraiser at Kaguchwani Catholic Church in Gatunga ward, for the first time Mwabu was conspicuously missing from the function against the expectations of Njuki’s team from Tharaka who have been welcoming him in all his visits to the place.
Following this function which seemed to be an eye opener for a new political dawn in Njuki’s camp, sources privy to the Njuki’s team revealed that immediately it was discovered that Mwabu had excused himself from the function, efforts were made to reach him in bid to put everything in order since it was not taken to be a normal absentia especially when this was happening in Mwabu’s backyard.
After probable interventions which seemed to work, Mwabu finally appeared in the next day’s function by the governor at Mutuguni where the governor was launching Muthangani borehole in attendance of his support team from Tharaka. However the protocol of the day did not seem to favour Mr. Mwabu as he was not recognized as one of the few speakers who got a chance to address the crowd which was against the norm where he has always had the first chance to speak in praise of his boss.
But this being Mwabu’s ‘bedroom’ and having served as the area MCA for one term, it was not easy to deliberately ignore his presence. It took what one can call consultations to have him address the crowd being the last person before the governor after the ‘ground’ seemed to be on his side probably from his charismatic tales and political statements which have been pillars to his political journey.
He however upon rising to the podium avoided politics and urged leaders to unite and work for the interest of voters terming unity as the only tool to better service delivery to the voters. Using a coded language, Mwabu however said he won’t fail to correct the governor when he goes wrong.
However even before the week ends, Mwabu appeared in another function held by the Chuka university don and stiff competitor of Njuki after he has publicly announced his bid to vie for the gubernatorial seat come 2022.
In what seems to be like possible decamping of the Njuki’s government spokesperson from Njuki’s political camp, Mwabu cleansed Njoka of allegations and the notion that have for quite some time been spread by his opponents that he does not have Tharaka people at heart and therefore cannot be of any help to Tharaka people.
Speaking during the function, Mwabu showered Njoka with praises terming him as person who has transformed Tharaka through the Tharaka University College which is a constituent college of Chuka university and requested him to continued expanding the institutions to other parts of Tharaka and Igambangombe.
“It is not our right to have our children being offered slots to work in our Tharaka University since we have other communities which are much learned. But due to professor’s love for Tharaka people, he has given us slots so that we benefit from the institution,’’ Mwabu observed.
Therefore Mwabu said if helping Tharaka get transformed positively is what is being referred to as hate towards Tharaka people, Njoka should not be intimidated by his political opponents but he should continue working to better lives of Tharaka.
Further he vowed to support any leader who has people’s interests as their priority since better service delivery is the most critical thing people want and not mere politics.
As the signs already have it, it now remains a matter of time to see the direction the dwindling political relationship between Mwabu and Njuki will take as more political camps continue to align in amid 2022 polls.
